August 2013 – Post summer holiday rant

0

I’m on a rant this time. As you may or may not be aware I do have a life beyond the walls of the test room. While I was on holiday I happened to find myself in a public house, (how I do not know), enjoying a foaming beer with my healthy lunch. At the next table a quartet of sixty-somethings sat down to also enjoy their lunch. I could go on to describe the interior of the said pub, as it was 300 years old, but I fear I may lose your attention if I do not get to the point of this tale.

I certainly did not mean to lug in to their conversation, but when folk start talking about specs I do find it a little intriguing. The talk went along the lines of how one gent was so careless with his specs that he only ever buys cheap over the counter ones. He mentioned that they were not great but they were “better than nothing”. This got me thinking. He wore a nice watch. They had driven up in a nice car. His wife wore nice jewellery.  Funny how he can look after them!

We are often asked by anxious parents about how to get kids to look after and appreciate their new glasses. We try to take the time to show how to put them on and take them off, how to clean them and how to store them. In general this works.

New rule at HMD. All over sixties have to bring their mummy with them to learn how to deal with their specs. Maybe then they can be seen in quaint old pubs, having a nice lunch WEARING NICE SPECS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
