John Hughes Retirement
John Hughes, one of the original founders of HMD Opticians, will retire from the practice on Friday 30th October 2026. The announcement marks the conclusion of his 41 years of service to his patients across the Northeast of Scotland.
Mr Hughes started the practice with Alan Macdonald & Donnie Davidson in 1988 to provide comprehensive eyecare to the residents of Peterhead. Over the next 2 decades the practice expanded to include practices in Inverurie, Turriff and Banchory with Andrew McLeod joining the team in 2006.
Andrew McLeod, HMD Opticians, Director, praised John’s service to the area and the impact of his career.
“We are incredibly grateful for John’s, leadership, compassion, good humour and unwavering dedication to his patients. His influence can be seen throughout HMD Opticians, and his vision & bad jokes will continue to guide our practice for years to come”
In preparation for this new chapter and to ensure continuity of service to all our patients, Anne Glennie and Teri Carle became Directors in February 2025, working with Director, Andrew Mcleod to continue the future advancement of HMD Opticians.
