Contact lenses have developed amazingly in the last 20 years. Unfortunately the human brain has sometimes not always kept up.
Take a recent case: a gentleman who will remain nameless came to see me because one of his contact lenses was irritating him. I sat him in the chair and examined the eye with the offending lens. Turns out he had a little nick in the edge of the lens.” No problem” I say and supplied him with a replacement lens.
Next day I get a shirty phone call telling me that the new lens was as uncomfortable as the old! I sent out another replacement. Believe it or not he phoned again the next day ….what is the level above shirty?
I had to get him in. What on earth was he doing to the lenses? So, in he came, a nice shade of puce, and sat in the chair. Looking at the lens on his eye threw up a surprise or should I say two! The daft sod had put the first lens on top of the damaged one! In his anger he then forgot to take the double lens out and put the third onto numbers one and two. No wonder it was still irritating.
After a few mumbled apologies he left the room, tail firmly between his legs. Last thing he asked was for me not to tell anyone!!!!! (and I’ve not told anyone WHO he is)
