Eye movement is multi-directional, but a standard progressive lens is designed to support linear eye movement, which can make it hard for eyes to change focus rapidly. Diabetes can pose a real threat to your vision. When you have diabetes, your eyesight can be gravely impacted by several diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, early-onset cataracts, diabetic macular degeneration, and glaucoma.

1. Attend regular eye exams – diabetic eye diseases typically have few symptoms until the condition has advanced beyond the early stages. At you next eye exam, book an OCT (optical coherence Tomography) scan, that can identify changes in your vision before you do.
2. Manage your blook sugar – keeping your blood sugar normal through diet, exercise, and prescribed medications can keep your blood vessels healthy and your eyesight intact.
3. Control your blood pressure and cholesterol – Like other blood vessels in your body, the delicate vessels in your eyes react negatively to both elevated blood pressure and high cholesterol levels. Monitoring your blood pressure and cholesterol regularly and taking steps control both can protect the health of your eyes.

How important is your child’s eye exam?

As your child prepares to start another school year, don’t forget to take care of one of the most important learning tools – their eyes.

Around 80% of learning involves your eyes whether it’s reading, writing or watching a screen. Given that, an uncorrected vision problem can be a significant barrier to learning. Eye issues such as myopia (short-sightedness) can make it more difficult to see the front of the class, follow and understand lessons. Children with undetected vision problems who struggle in class can also be misdiagnosed with learning difficulties.

Going Greener – 10 Trees Planted
