April is Woman’s Eye Health and Safety Month
Pregnancy brings an increase in hormones that may cause changes in vision. In most cases, these changes are temporary eye conditions that will return to normal after delivery.
Refractive change
During pregnancy, changes in your hormone level can alter the strength in your prescription. It’s always advisable to speak to your optometrist about the changes who can help you decide whether to change your prescription. They may advise you to wait until after the delivery before making any changes.
Dry eyes
Some women experience dry eyes during their pregnancy. This is usually temporary and goes away after delivery. Speak to your optometrist to find out which eye drops are safe to use, that can lessen the discomfort during pregnancy.
Puffy eyelids
Puffiness around the eyes is another common side effect of certain hormonal change women may have during pregnancy. Don’t skimp on your water intake and stick to a moderate diet, low in sodium and caffeine. These healthy habits can help limit water retention and boost your overall comfort.
