Why are women at a higher risk from sight threatening conditions?

As we age the risk of suffering a sight threatening eye condition increases and it’s women who are at the greatest risk. According to the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB), nearly two thirds of people living with sight loss are female.

There are a number of factors such as longer life expectancy, hormonal changes and increased prevalence to obesity, put women  at increased risk of poor eye health. Which makes regular eye tests vital to ensure early detection and treatment of eye conditions.
