What you can do to help you see more clearly at night.

Having trouble to see clearly at night while driving is more common than you think. You will find nearly half of all drivers struggle to see at night for many reasons. Accidents are reportedly greater at night than during the day too.

Headlights, high beams and fog lights are designed to help drivers see more clearly at night, but can cause adverse affects to oncoming drivers. Glare can be distracting, irritating and can reduce driving reaction time.

So, what can you do to help?

If you wear glasses, one of the best ways to improve your vision at night is to add a lens coating, such as anti-glare or anti-reflective (AR coating). This lens enhancement can reduce glare given off these oncoming headlights, street sign reflections and any other glare from other lights.

Anti-reflective coatings can improve you night time driving, with more clear and comfortable vision.

What you need to know

Halloween has many traditions, we go guising, we dook for apples and we wear extravagant costumes, kids and adults alike. These costumes can include scary or glittery make up, false eyelashes and eye colour changing contact lenses. Here’s some tips to help take care of you eyes this Halloween.

Halloween Make-up

Make-up can be the finishing touch to the perfect costume or could be the answer to a last-minute decision to join in the Halloween fun, whatever the occasion, you need to take care of your eyes.

  1. Only use preservative free make-up
  2. Don’t apply make-up inside your eyelash line.
  3. Try to avoid glitter as it can easily get in your eyes. Especially avoid craft glitter which should never be used as cosmetic glitter

Halloween Masks

They’re a great accessory, just make sure they fit well, so they don’t block your vision, especially when going out at night.

Halloween Costume Contact Lenses

These costume contact lenses change the colour of your eyes to give you a frightening look. But, buying these lenses online can give your eyes a fright, as poor fitting, or unhygienic lenses can cause issues for your eyes. Contact lenses should only be purchased from a registered optician.

  • Eye infections
  • Allergic reactions
  • Cuts and scratches to the cornea
  • Damage to your eyes that may be irreversible.

Have fun this Halloween and remember to look after your eyes.

Diabetes can pose a real threat to your vision. When you have diabetes, your eyesight can be gravely impacted by several diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, early-onset cataracts, diabetic macular degeneration, and glaucoma.

There are, however, steps you can take to help prevent these conditions from stealing your vision.

  1. Attend regular eye exams – diabetic eye diseases typically have few symptoms until the condition has advanced beyond the early stages. At you next eye exam, book an OCT (optical coherence Tomography) scan, that can identify changes in your vision before you do.
  2. Manage your blook sugar – keeping your blood sugar normal through diet, exercise, and prescribed medications can keep your blood vessels healthy and your eyesight intact.
  3. Control your blood pressure and cholesterol – Like other blood vessels in your body, the delicate vessels in your eyes react negatively to both elevated blood pressure and high cholesterol levels. Monitoring your blood pressure and cholesterol regularly and taking steps control both can protect the health of your eyes.
  4. Healthy eating and regular exercise – healthy nutrition and regular exercise help control your diabetes and greatly benefit your eye health.

Any concerns, book an eye exam with us today.
